Getting to U.Mass.-Amherst

U.Mass.-Amherst is located in Western Massachusetts: 45 miles north of from Hartford, CT (~55 min. driving); 95 miles west of Boston, MA (~2.5 hours); and 175 miles northeast of New York, NY (~3.5 hours).
By Air
The closest airport to U.Mass.-Amherst is Hartford, CT (Bradley International Airport). Many people prefer to fly to Hartford rather than Boston, as it is a shorter ride and avoids city traffic. To get from the Hartford airport to Amherst, there are several options:

You can also fly into Boston’s Logan International Airport, though getting from Logan to Amherst is costlier and takes longer. The ground transportation options are the same as above, although note that shuttle service could be quite costly unless you coordinate with others.
Note that renting a car could be a good option, as it would give you more options in the Amherst area.
By Bus
The Peter Pan and Greyhound bus lines serve the area. Most routes go to the main bus terminal in Springfield, where you can catch a Peter Pan bus to Amherst. Buses run almost hourly between Springfield and Amherst. For fares and schedules, see:
